has been an educator at Ponderosa since 1992. His passion for the life sciences has allowed him to work with students in the subjects of Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology.
In his career at Ponderosa he served as the chair for the science department for 24 years. He also served as the Director of Student Activities of Ponderosa from 2001-2013.
He is a two time Educator of the Year award recipient and has been honored by CADA (California Association of Directors of Activities) for his contributions as a student activities director. He earned the honor of Master Activity Advisor from CADA in 2010.
He started his teaching career in 1990 at Rio Linda High School teaching science after earning his BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology from UC Davis. His work experience includes the UC Davis Raptor Center, Sacramento Zoo, Great Grey Owl Research Project in Yosemite NP, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute summer internship.
Away from school you can find Mr. Burghardt tying flies and fly fishing on some stream, river, or lake. He may see you skiing at Lake Tahoe in the winter or camping during the summer. He is an avid baseball fan and has followed the Giants since he was a boy. Hum Baby! He enjoys woodworking and building.
